Popcorn was once the staple of noisy back-seat cinema-goers. Now though, popcorn is viewed more and more as a fitness snack – oh hello! I know the skeptics among you may think “alright hun, on your own”, when I say that I would have popcorn as a tasty snack that will keep me lean and mean – unless it is of the boring plain and dry kind – but it’s true! Popcorn has become fashionable, and its having a moment. Enter the Popcorn Shed, a brand created by Laura and Sam, two cousins banished to the garden shed as kids when their popcorn experimentation caused havoc in the family kitchen.
I absolutely love popcorn and so when I was given the opportunity to try out some of their snack packs, I jumped at the opportunity. What I like about Popcorn Shed is the fact that they incorporate chunks of nuts, chocolate and dried fruit into their popcorn, which I have never seen before. And with their snack packs at only 140 calories or less, I am sold!
The larger packs are perfect for a movie night complete with crackling fire (see example above) with someone or, you know, just yourself (sorry Tim) … and they also make a great gift for someone (perhaps for Valentine’s Day), if you don’t want to keep it for yourself of course (which you probably will).
Butterly Nuts: peanut butter caramel popcorn with peanuts.
This popcorn pack had a hint of peanut butter, but it wasn’t too sweet, which I really liked, because I felt like it was natural ingredients with not too much added sugar.
Salted caramel popcorn with milk chocolate
I have to say, it was nice but it was too sweet for my liking.
Sweet cheesus: cheese & caramel popcorn
It really shouldn’t work – BUT IT DOES. It was like a Russian roulette of flavour; one was sweet and the next was cheesy! It keeps you on your toes. However, I am a weirdo and like to eat crisps and chocolate AT THE SAME TIME #controversial. So shoot me.
Say Cheese! Cheddar cheese popcorn
This was a good lunch time snack for me. As I have probably said in the majority of my posts, I LOVE cheese so this really hit the spot for me.
Pecan Pie: Caramel popcorn with with pecan nut pieces
I can’t help but say this flavour with a deep south American accent. This popcorn didn’t have that distinct pecan taste, but it was still tasty as it has little bits of pecan that mix in with the popcorn, which I have never experienced before.
Pop ‘n’ Choc: Chocolate caramel popcorn with milk chocolate
This one was really nice and chocolatey without being too sweet. Nice to round off my lunch with something sweet.
My favourites are the ‘Berry-licious’, ‘Sweet Cheesus’ and ‘Say Cheese!’ varieties. I will be buying these to have as an on-the-go snack.
